B&K Structures will be taking part in the final designTimber webinar, as part of the multidisciplinary team presenting our work on the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS).

This new series of designTimber talks – learning from the architects, engineers and specialists advancing timber design – is hosted by Timber Development UK, as part of a series of lunchtime webinars featuring exemplary timber buildings from the 2023 Wood Awards winners and shortlist.

The NMIS headquarters pushes the technical and aesthetic capabilities of engineered timber, creating an inspirational learning environment with a unique structural identity. Dramatic glulam columns, a diagrid roof and panoramic glazing, produce an emblematic architectural statement for the facility, exemplifying NMIS’ values of innovation and sustainability.

This impressive mass timber project will be presented by architects Adam McAvoy and Ross Barrett from HLM Architects, engineer Steve Peet from Engenuiti and timber frame specialist Alex Brock from B&K Structures.

Date: Wednesday 11 September 2024 | Time: 13.00 – 14.00 pm | Location: Online

“This webinar series is key to TDUK’s mission to educate, inform and inspire today’s architects, engineers, and all other built environment specialists to build better, and lower carbon, using intelligent timber design. We want this knowledge to be open for all, which is why the webinars are free to attend. We also encourage those considering entering the Wood Awards 2024 to attend and learn about some of last year’s top projects.”

These monthly webinars will be presented by the multi-disciplinary design and delivery teams behind a diverse range of inspiring projects, from high rise urban offices to engaging community spaces to innovative research projects. Spanning offsite manufacturing, mass timber systems, robotic technology, traditional bolt-free joinery and the reuse of marine timber, the series will take you to some of the many frontiers of contemporary timber architecture.

The designTimber talks are programmed by TDUK, main organiser of the Wood Awards along with the American Hardwood Export Council and Carpenters’ Company. Find out more here: https://timberdevelopment.uk/events/
