Located in the heart of Manchester’s core business district, Island is a new generation of workspace.
B&K Hybrid Solutions detailed, fabricated and erected circa 700 tonnes of structural steelwork - manufactured from our state-of-the-art production facility – and delivered the Westok cell beam and metal decking package, on behalf of Bowmer and Kirkland.
Due to the building’s prominent City Centre location in the heart of Manchester, careful planning and close collaboration with all project partners was required to navigate the challenges presented by the tight site restrictions.
‘Island’ is the first building in Manchester designed to reflect how the pandemic has reshaped our perception of work. Increased demand for hybrid working and other changes to the commercial market has encouraged a ‘blended environment’ design – including gyms and coffee shops – which aims to suit the aspirations of future occupants.
Sitting on John Dalton Street in Manchester’s ‘prime’ core, ‘Island’ is also one of the city’s most sustainable office schemes; designed by Cartwright Pickard, it also incorporates resilient technology infrastructure to support occupiers' ESG objectives and its energy consumption will be 46% lower than the 2020 Real Estate Environmental Benchmark.
"The ambitious plans reflect the fact that the coronavirus pandemic has been reshaping our perceptions of work. Many people will be migrating to a hybrid working pattern or setting themselves up in third spaces such as coffee shops. Island is designed to reflect these changes and provide a blended environment that suits the aspirations of future occupants."
