B&K Hybrid Solutions are currently on site at Splashes Leisure Centre, in Rainham. The leisure centre will showcase the plethora of benefits of a structural timber and steel hybrid solution.

‘Splashes’, a new leisure centre in Rainham, is now underway - showcasing the benefits of a structural timber and hybrid solution.

B&K Hybrid Solutions are delighted to be delivering the CLT, Glulam, and structural steelwork package, including a two-storey timber-steel hybrid leisure centre with an engineered timber pool hall, featuring glulam and columns and rafters. Specialist access equipment has been required to overcome challenges working above the pre-dug swimming pool area, and we’re happy to be working closely alongside Willmott Dixon, Furness Partnership, and Space & Place.

The new £23.7m leisure centre in Rainham, on behalf of Medway Council, supports the council’s ambition of providing more child-friendly facilities and further opportunities for young people, including family and accessible changing rooms.

When completed, this family-friendly facility will have two swimming pools – a children’s fun pool with flume, wave ball pool and beach area, and a training pool for lane swimming and lessons, along with a fitness gym and room for exercise classes and children’s parties.

Hybrid timber and steel are ideal materials for pool environments, and can help to increase cost efficiency while retaining a biophilic aesthetic appeal. In line with the council’s Climate Change and carbon neutral aims, Splashes utilises low carbon structural timber to reduce the environmental impact of the scheme, which also includes electric charging parking spaces.
