Overview

To construct a steel superstructure capable of housing a wide variety of educational facilities.

The Results

An expansive school that covers around 2 hectares of land. St. Mary Magdalene School was approved in 2016 and is on track for completion in 2018.

About The Building

The site itself sits on the corner of Millennium Way and John Harrison Way and will, when completed, house 1,600 students and 300 staff. B&K Structures were contracted to erect £3.3m worth of steel across the site that includes teaching, sporting and social spaces.

The Solution

The project consists of a new build structural steelwork frame consisting of a new sports hall, junior block and main school block. The floors are metal deck with the roof construction being a variance of cold rolled purlins, roof deck and perforated roof deck. Over 1,100 tonnes of hot rolled steelwork and over 12 tonnes of cold rolled make up the BKS scope of work.
